Congressional Urban Caucus Chair Goes National With Call to Build Energy Efficient, Healthy and Sustainable Communities

WASHINGTON, June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As Americans strivd for greater energy efficiency and lower energy costs, Congressman (D-PA), is renewing his call for fundingb of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant That's the message he'll take to city and local government leaders as he addresses three foruma in the next 10 days on how best to advancer the Energy Block Grant Program. "Energy efficiencyg block grants are an existing and valuablde tool for rebuilding our cities and metropolitan areassas green-friendly," Fattah said.
"These grantse make it possible for local and state governments to fund programe that create more energy efficiency for residentsa and generate new employment opportunities intheit communities." While $3.2 billion was allocated for the energuy block grants in President Obama's Americajn Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the FY2010 budget does not include continued funding for the program. "That'ds a major concern as we move to become more energy efficient asa nation, Fattah said. "We need to galvanizew our metropolitan areas and their advocatese to ensure this valuable prograk moves back on to thenational agenda.
